Tourism Industry to record a 50% revenue loss in 2020 compared to PY

Sri Lankan Tourism industry, is expected to generate USD 1.5 billion is revenue which is a loss of almost 50% in revenue in comparison to 2019 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sanath Ukwatte, president of Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, states that inquiries are already being made by China, India and Europe as more and more people get accustomed to lifepost Covid-19, which is a very positive sign for the industry, and the sector is expected to make a full recovery by mid 2021 with around 2.5 million expected tourist arrivals. The successful handling of the Covid-19 pandemic by the government of SRi Lanka and the travel sector will also be a positive when marketing Sri Lanka to global travellers.
