Sri Lanka Tourism Presents the ‘Tourism Strategic Action Plan 2020-2022’ to Key Tourism Stakeholders

Sri Lanka Tourism, at a meeting held last week with key tourism industry stakeholders including 49 industry associations exchanged views on revival of the industry post pandemic. The ‘Tourism Strategic Action Plan 2020-2022’ was also presented at this meeting. The two year strategy which has been developed inline with the National Policy Framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ has identified 10 priority areas, six transformational themes, four pain points and 17 tourism activities. They key pain points for the industry have been identified as coordination failures, market failures, institutional failures, resource failures (finance/human resources) and investment shortcomings which needs to be rectified to ensure the effective implementation of the Tourism Strategic Action Plan 2020-2022. Furthermore 17 activities have been identified as being key priority areas including MICE tourism, development of attractions, service centres, immigration and emigration facilities, streamlining processes, expanding training schools, community-based tourism, wellness tourism, improving the quality of service and minimising harassment of foreign visitors with the aid of Tourist Police to name a few.
