First Underwater Museum in Sri Lanka Declared Open by Navy Commander

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva declared open Sri Lanka’s first underwater museum in Galle on 5 April 2020. Sri Lanka Navy completed construction of the project featuring artifacts and sculptures hand made by Navy personnel.The eco-friendly collection of statues will also promote the formation of corals overtime enhancing the natural beauty of the site. The special museum located off the shores of Galle is expected to draw large numbers of local and foreign tourists. Plans are in place to develop two more underwater museums in Trincomalee and Tangalle.
