10 Sri Lankan Hotels Earns Global Recognition with Michelin Key Awards

Michelin, the iconic name behind restaurant ratings, has launched a new global hospitality award system, and Sri Lanka is already making waves. Ten Sri Lankan hotels have been recognized in the inaugural Michelin Key awards, marking a significant milestone for the island’s tourism industry.

What is the Michelin Key?

Think of it as the hotel equivalent of a Michelin star. The Michelin Key celebrates exceptional hotels worldwide based on five rigorous criteria: architectural excellence and interior design, service quality and consistency, distinctive personality and character, value for money, and positive contribution to the local community.

Hotels can earn one, two, or three keys, representing “a very special stay,” “an exceptional stay,” and “an extraordinary stay” respectively. Unlike Michelin’s restaurant awards, which are limited to specific regions, the Key system is open to outstanding properties anywhere in the world.
