Second Expansion of BIA to Commence on 18th of November
The expansion of the Bandaranaike International Airport will commence on the 18th of November 2020. This will be known as the largest development project that has been launched this year. This project will begin to simultaneously mark the 1st year anniversary of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa assuming office and the birthday celebration of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The project aims to increase the passenger handling capacity from 6 million passengers per year to 15 million per year. The project will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and a loan of 131.5 billion rupees has been provided by the Government of Japan in order to complete this project.
