Number of ‘Safe and Secure’ Certified Hotels Double to Accommodate Increased Foreign Visitor Inflow

Sri Lanka Tourism has made efforts to increase the number of ‘Safe and Secure’ hotels to accommodate the increased demand since the resumption of tourism in January 2021. A total of 204 hotels have now completed the audit process and are certified as ‘safe and secure’. The number of certified hotels accounts for over 11,500 rooms or 30% of the total room capacity in Sri Lanka. Kimarli Fernando, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Tourism stated that accommodation providers have the flexibility to switch from international bookings to domestic booking with prior notice.
