Cabinet Approves Proposal Worth Rs. 186 Million to Support Tour Guides and Tour Drivers Registered Under SLTDA

The cabinet granted a proposal allocating an allowance of Rs. 186 million to support tour guides and tour drivers, who have been adversely affected due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.

Prasanna Ranatunga, Tourism Minister, stated that drivers and tour guides would be required to be registered with SLTDA in order to be eligible for this provision. SLTDA will arrange a one-off sum of Rs. 15,000 per person as an allowance for tourist bus drivers, helpers, and three-wheel drivers as well as safari vehicle drivers trained either under the supervision of SLTDA or any other tourist associations and applied for the concession as of 31 August. Tour guides registered with SLTDA and trained by Provincial Councils will also receive a payment of Rs. 20,000.
