10th November, 2020 News and Updates

Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) will be issuing safe and secure compliance certification to 40 hotels keen on resuming operations post Covid-19. Dr. Prasad Jayasuriya, Tourism Planning, Development and Investor Relations Director, stated that as the first step to this initiative, properties from Colombo to the coastal belt up to Yala have been evaluated as the health authorities were confident in reopening these areas to promote domestic tourism.

The certification will consist of a QR code to enable authorities to check information and prevent companies from providing false documentation. The QR code also allows the consumer to report any violations related to the guidelines provided by the health authority and SLTDA. SLTDA has invested a sum of LKR 7 million in the first phase. The compliance certification was initiated as a recovery effort to enhance hygiene and cleanliness standards amongst 650 tourism-related entities. The first assessment will be free of charge and if the property fails the first assessment, a second assessment will be required and the cost of it should be covered by the Hotel.
